At this page I want to give you some hints for buying reindeers
If you want to buy reindeers, you should mention some facts.
The reindeers should have a mark. The "Sami" mark in the ears of the animals is not enough.
Reindeers need a earmark with a road number or the name of the breeder, land and state. Or they have a transponder.
You should let you show all transfer documents and veterinary documents. They should not be older than 10 days and have to be original. ("Traces" for the European Community) This papers prove where the animals are from, when they were tested, when they were transported and if they arrived in time. When I begin a transport, my veterinary office knows that in about 29 hours there will arrive some reindeers at my farm. This documents also prove that the animals are tested on tuberculoses and bruceloses and are free of this illnesses If you have all the documents and tests, it's legal to import the animals to your country. The earmark number of the animals has to be filled in the transport documents.
If you do not have these documents, it can be very critical! For example: If you want to import the reindeers to Germany, Austria, France or Great Britain etc. you can have problems at the frontier. It's a matter of fact that the Environmental Protection Office often initiates that animals are killed (Danger of Epidemics). And you get punished for illegal import. It's best you have a look at he animals by yourself. Something really important: the dealer needs a "long-time-transport-permission" and has to be registered at the verterinary office. You can ask for these papers and documents! You need the essential knowledge about the animal transport, a emergency plan, means of transport like a truck, a van or a trailer (all means of tansport need to be accredited!). All these things can be asked at your veterinary office.
Something really important: do the animals eat "Renfor"?
Or are they judged to death?!
The animals can only survive if they are accustomed to "Renfor".(we feed it the whole year) So you can be sure that you will have fun with the animals. If the dealer does not breed reindeers by himself, keep your hands off these animals! Take your hands off breeders that want to make clear, that reindeers only eat hay!You can save time and money!!!
We notify all transports from Lapland to the Swedish animal welfare. With this action, we can avoid much trouble! I also have permission for the transport from Sweden to Germany by the Swedish ministry of aggricultur in Jonköpping.
